"No Country for Old Men- Sasha

Camera Work

  • 1.20 minutes is just long shots of landscape. But there’s dialog over the scene
  • After the landscapes, it starts with a panning to the left
  • Then tracking, following the two characters
  • Median long shot of character putting man in car.
  • After the landscape, is mainly median long shots, or median close ups
  • Character in from of the screen is in focus but the character in the back ground is out of focus, but we still can see what he is trying to do.
  • Then he becomes in focus as he moves closer.
  • But his face doesn’t get seen, only until you see a median shot of him strangling the cop.
  • Close up of hand cuffs
  • Close up of characters face. To shoe relief

Mise en Scene

  • Lighting starts of as it being sunset, and as it goes past every landscape, it gets lighter.
  • One shot you see the sun coming up over the mountains
  • You first see a police car, and then 2 characters come into the shot, but only the middle part of their body. One in handcuffs and the other taking him to the car.
  • You see the police officers face, but only the back of the head of the other characters. This keeps a mystery to the characters face.
  • The police officer places a gas bottle in the from seat, and it focus on this object, this can tell us that this prob is important trough out the film
  • There is a shot, where the police officer get into his car, the front seat of his car is all light, and on the officers face. But in the back seat where the victim is sitting, it’s all dark, and you don’t see his face, because a shadow is cassed on it.
  • The police officer is on the phone, this is shown as a distraction while the men in the back ground get loses.
  •  He uses the hand cuffs to kill the officer. Maybe that’s when in one of the first shots, you only see the middle part of the body, where you see the hand cuffs.

Editing

  • Slow pace, at the beginning, this could be because the dialog over the top of the scene
  • Using cuts

Sound

  • Mainly Dialog at the beginning of scene
  • Man speaking as a narrative. A non- diagetic sound.
  • Sounding like man is telling a story.
  • Narrative goes over diagetic sounds, like doors closing, car driving
  • Stops talking when car drives off
  • Police officer on phone
  • Sound of guy strangling cop.
  • Man chocking.
