Lighting Exercise

Lighting Exercise

1a) To create this shot we used a High key light and low fill light, It was hard to recreate the lighting for this image as we didn't use a big enough room for the light to work effectively. We tried to use the light on the ceiling as a prop light (diegetic lighting) but it did not work that well.

1c) We choose to recreate the lighting from image C as we felt we could recreate the lighting more effectively as we did not have a big room. We used a back light on a low setting and a high key light from above

2) The silhouette effect, we used two high key lights placed in front of Alicia to create shadow behind her. We originally used one light but then found out that it could not create enough light in order to create a good shadow.

3) Frontal Key light only, We used one high key light.

Key light and fill, We used a high key light facing towards Alicia and a Fill light on the right, this created shadow on the top left hand side of her face as the fill light was at a low angle.

Bottom up lighting only, We used one high key light facing upwards to create shadow on her face.

Top lighting only, We just used one high key light and held it above her head but slightly in front so you shadows on her face are clear.

Side light only, We used a high key light at a slight low angle to the right.

Backlight only, We used a high key light and placed it behind her to separate her from the background.

Overall this task was simple but hard to perfect, and its easy to understand why lighting technicians are needed.

  1. Very good and well done. Think about how you now employ this into your own filming?
